Translation Info
Notes “This important text, which provides the earliest understandable source of information on the Tartars, was bought from a Bukharin merchant by Swedish officers taken prisoner at the battle of Pultawa in 1709. Bentinck supposedly translated it into French either under the guidance of the Baron von Strahlenberg, or copied his notes. The two maps are based on Strahlenberg’s very important map of Asia” (Atabey).
