Notes The book is noteworthy for its dedication to contemporary writer and philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, written by the publisher, which praises his modesty and humility in public affairs, and compares him with Socrates. This is the first time a French translation of Plato’s “The Laws” was published, and it was translated by Jean-Nicolas Grou, a French Jesuit priest who occupied himself with the French translation of Plato’s works.
