Notes In this fine work, which took 12 years to complete, various range of costumes and hair-styles, jewelry, period furnishings, weapons, furniture, are covered and has been a very rich source for artists and designers of various backgrounds. The usage of chromolithography has provided brilliant colors for the plates. There are 500 plates including 300 in color, gold and silver, and 200 in monochrome. Each part is preceded by a descriptive note. Volume I is an overview of the collection; Volume II focuses on classical antiquity outside of Europe; Volume III introduces the European world; Volume IV centers on France and Europe until the seventeenth century; Volume V discusses France in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries; Volume VI moves through France from the eighteenth century to the modern times, and then provides an overview of Modern Europe going through its distinct nationalities.
